Self-ligating braces hold the wire with a small built-in clip instead of elastic ties. This means lower friction, fewer stains and food traps around the brackets, and quicker adjustment visits. At MDS Dental they are our first choice for fixed braces, and are available in metal or tooth-coloured ceramic.
How self-ligating brackets differ
Conventional brackets need tiny elastic or wire ties to hold the archwire. These ties add friction, collect plaque and lose force over time. A self-ligating bracket has a sliding door that closes over the wire. Light, super-elastic wires can then work more consistently.
- Lower friction and lighter forces
- Easier to keep clean
- Faster wire changes at appointments
- Pairs well with skeletal anchorage and expansion
